Overview: The ground-based predecessor to the standard GM unit, the RGM-79 [G] GM Ground Type was rushed to development using relevant data from Project V. Originally intended to gather data alongside the RGM-79GS GM Space Type for combat usage as a test suit, the RGM-79 [G] Ground Type proved to be an effective if expensive to produce combat unit. This eventually resulted in the watered-down RGM-79 GM being a more favored and adaptable unit, as it was able to fulfill multiple combat roles versus the GM Ground Type.
